Rakesh Sharma, CPA, has nearly thirty years of diverse experience spanning hospitality, private industry, financial control, public accounting, and public service, having served at esteemed institutions such as the Canada Revenue Agency and the Ontario Ministry of Revenue. His expertise encompasses assurance and compliance across commodity taxation, corporate and international income tax, and tax treaties. Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Commerce, he is also a graduate in Hospitality Business Management.

Beginning his career as a management trainee within a prominent business conglomerate, Sharma progressed through various leadership roles. He dedicated years to the public service, focusing on audit and compliance, before transitioning to executive director and corporate financial controller positions in the private sector.

Sharma’s contributions extend to academia, where he shared his knowledge as a lecturer at Ryerson University, covering topics such as Business Tax Law, the Canadian Income Tax Act, Assurance, and Audit. He also provided preparatory courses for aspiring professional accountants and conducted refresher sessions and seminars for the Common Final Examination (CFE).

A Chartered Professional Accountant and member of both CPA Ontario and CPA Canada, Sharma currently serves as the president of a privately held investment holding group. Additionally, he volunteers his expertise as a member and director on the boards and audit committees of non-profit and corporate entities. Notably, he holds the position of Director-at-Large at the Dr. Sonia Sharma Dental Centre.

Throughout his career, Sharma has earned numerous awards and accolades, including the Ontario Deputy Minister of Revenue commendation award for his “Outstanding dedication and commitment to the people of Ontario and to the integrity of Ontario’s Corporation Tax program.”
