What are dental X-rays?

Dental X-rays are images of teeth that a dental professional use to assess your oral health. X-rays reveal the complications that are not visible to a human eye during a clinical examination. X-rays assist the dental professional in detecting conditions such as cavities, bacterial decay, impacted teeth, bone level and abscess etc. Dental X-rays are usually taken once a year. If your dentist is monitoring the progress of a dental condition, then he/she could order them earlier to contain the issue.

If you visit a new dental clinic for your initial first appointment, then you may require dental X-rays, for the dentist to access pre-conditions including prior fillings etc. These initial exam and X-rays become the starting point for all future appointments.

Children may also require more frequent dental X-rays than the adults to monitor teeth growth, dental deformities, and other dental diseases. Dental X-rays can also assist the dentist in determining whether baby teeth should be treated/extracted to avoid future difficulties, e.g., abnormal growth of adult teeth under current deciduous or baby teeth.

Safety of dental X-rays

Although dental X-rays involve radiation and it exposes patients to radiation, the levels of such radiation exposure is extremely low. Your chances of being exposed to radiation are even smaller if your Brampton dentist utilizes digital X-rays instead of conventional dental processing films. Most modern dental offices currently use or upgraded to latest digital radiography. You must enquire while making an appointment. Dental X-rays in Brampton are taken precisely by qualified professionals. The precision further inhibits limits of radiation exposure. All certified dental assistants had to go through a demanding course to get X-rays certification. The certification is approved by the government regulated authorities. X-rays tubes are calibrated daily and are inspected annually by an external X-ray technician who certifies them yearly. These annual X-ray function reports must be available at each office along with the current status of the staff certification for surprise Ministry inspection.

Dental X-rays during pregnancy

You may require X-rays taken during your pregnancy as part of your dental disease treatment or an emergency. As mentioned earlier, dental care with dental X-rays is usually safe during pregnancy,  but it is usually avoided unless they are an absolute necessity. The dentist makes this judgement. Dental X-rays do not need to be postponed, if you are attempting to conceive or breastfeeding.
