Canadian Dental Insurance Plan (CDCP)

WE ARE ACCEPTING CDCP PATIENTS

As a matter of principle and to assist low-income families, we at Dr. Sonia Sharma Dental Centre offer our patients the benefits accrued by the Canadian Dental Insurance Plan.

The federal government has committed to rolling out the CDCP coverage in stages.

Eligibility Dates – timeline:

Starting in (with patients ages)

  • Age 87+ in Mid-December 2023
  • Age 77 to 86 in January 2024
  • Age 72 to 76 in February 2024
  • Age 70 to 71 in March 2024

These letters include a personalized application code and instructions on how to apply.

  • Seniors aged 65 to 69 may apply in May 2024
  • Children under the age of 18 may apply starting in June 2024
  • All remaining eligible Canadian residents can apply starting in 2025

How much is covered:

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal government program. It aims to help with dental services for Canadian residents with a household income of less than $90,000 a year and those who don’t have dental benefits.

IT IS NOT A FREE DENTAL PROGRAM. Depending on their adjusted family net income, patients may have to make a co-payment of up to 60%.

THE CDCP DOES NOT COVER ALL DENTAL SERVICES. Before you start any treatment, you should understand your dental care costs. Please call us if you plan to use the CDCP benefits.

The CDCP fee guide is not the same as the provincial fee guide, and the fees will be less than those in each province’s fee guide.

  • Family income levels will determine what percentage of coverage of the CDCP fee guide each patient will receive.
  • Below $70,000 net income- eligible for 100% of CDCP fee. Patients may face additional charges as described below.
  • $70,000 to $79,999 net income- eligible for 60% of CDCP fee. Patients may face additional charges as described below.
  • $80,000 to $89,999 net income- eligible for 40% of CDCP fee. Patients may face additional charges as described below.
  • It is important to note that 100% of the CDCP fee DOES NOT EQUAL 100% of the provincial/territorial dental association fee guide, and dentists will have a choice to balance-bill their patients for the part of the dentist’s standard fee not covered by the CDCP.
  • THEREFORE, IN MOST CASES, THIS WILL NOT BE ENTIRELY FREE FOR PATIENTS

Eligibility Criterions:

  1. ACCESS TO PRIVATE / EMPLOYER DENTAL INSURANCE
  • For people who DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO DENTAL INSURANCE from their employers and other dental coverages

This means you do not have access to any type of dental insurance or coverage through:

  • Your employment benefits or a family member’s employment benefits, including health and wellness accounts
  • A professional or student organizationNote: If you’re eligible for dental coverage through your employment benefits or through a professional or student organization, you’re not eligible for CDCP. This is true even if:
    • You decide not to take it.
    • You must pay a premium for it.
    • You don’t use it.
  • Your pension benefits or a family member’s pension benefits
    • This includes federal, provincial, and territorial government employer pension plans
    • Exception: You may be eligible for the CDCP if you’re retired and:
      • you opted out of pension benefits before December 11, 2023
      • you can’t opt back in under the pension rules
  • Coverage purchased by you or a family member or through a group plan from an insurance or benefits company
    • If you purchased your current dental insurance policy privately (and not as part of any of the coverage described above), you’re not eligible for the CDCP while that coverage is in effect.
