How the Coronavirus Pandemic Affects and Dental Care

Our Brampton Dental Office has implemented strict safety procedures and personal protective equipment to help protect our patients and our team during the present Coronavirus pandemic.

As dentists, we are placed high on the list of getting infected by the coronavirus. Proximity with a patient increases the risks of this transmission during some aerosol generating dental procedures.

At the beginning of coronavirus, to mitigate the risk, our clinic got involved in implementing several changes and enhancements. We not only follow but overreach established guidelines provided by the Canadian Dental Association (CDA), the Royal College of Dental Surgeons and the Ministry of Health to ensure the highest standards of sterilization and infection control and to provide a safe experience for everyone that steps into our office.

As an experienced and respected dental provider in Brampton, we have garnered years of experience in dental practice operations with extreme high emphasis on infection control. We have successfully applied many safety measures, including some of them that are listed in this article. Our team of highly skilled professionals are mindfully committed to take every measure possible for your protection. Dr. Sonia Sharma personally chairs the office COVID Safety Committee that comprises of dental providers and senior staff of the clinics.

Some of the salient features that you may experience during your upcoming visit are:

• We screen our staff and limit the occupancy of the office to the level prescribed by established guidelines communicated by Ontario Ministry of Health and long-term care.
• We screen patients twice: once before the arrival and one at your, you will be asked several Covid 19 screening questions. You will be asked to a formal consent when visiting the office to confirm your health and other protocol associated with COVID 19.
• A mask is mandatory during every visit. Your temperature will be taken, and hand sanitizer will be provided.
• Physical distancing is practiced. All adult patients will be required to make their dental visit alone unless otherwise instructed. We have an office occupancy limit and thus only take appointments that fits in that criteria.
• Our team will be wearing personal protective equipment including masks, face shields and gowns.
• We have Aerosol mitigation equipment installed within each of the operatory and follow time delays after each patient.
• We adhere to hospital type sterilization with logged usage of all instruments and equipment. Our logs could trace all procedures and pinpoint even the smallest of the items to each treatment.
• All the operatories are isolated with barriers. The barriers are sterilized after each visit to control possible cross contamination, prior to start of each treatment.
• We do not allow the patient to use bathrooms for safety. We advise to make sure that they use their home washrooms prior to the dental visit.

Like front line workers in the hospital, we conduct daily COVID related briefings and constantly update staff on procedural methods and encourage mindfulness to control this dreadful disease.
