COVID Protocol: A continuity of everyday normal

COVID Protocol

After the surge of the Covid-19 pandemic, in almost every aspect of our lives, we have seen significant changes. When it comes to the medical and dental industries, health and safety is of a major concern. Our Brampton dentists have adopted several safety precautions and policies to deliver the safest dental care to our patients, while keeping our dental team safe.

The quick response to patients’ inquiry: Is dental offices are open during the Covid 19 pandemic, which is a resounding yes. It is safe to visit the dentist during the Covid-19 Pandemic. While many things have changed at dental offices, dental health professionals are always dedicated to giving you safe and quality treatment. Dental offices were already familiar with keeping patients safe even prior to pandemic. At Dr. Sonia Sharma, we were previously following the policy of treating patients as our own family and thus attaining highest available standards of sterilization protocol. This includes double sterilization and standardized upkeep through constant monitoring and daily measurements of our mandated equipment and usage standards. New advisories for office and their dental teams are to balance the risk in their locations with an imperative necessity to treat patients. It has always been crucial to maintain the highest levels of sterilization and infection control to create a safe environment for everyone who enters a dental office. This had always been our consistent long-term mandate, affectively unaffected by the newest requirements.

Before/during the dental treatment:

In Brampton, dentists have made special arrangements during the Covid 19 pandemic to enable the dental facility to run smoothly and within accordance to Government of Canada and Health Canada’s polices. You may notice some changes. You will be asked numerous Covid 19 screening questions before your visit (online or on the phone). Tell you not to come too early (rather be exactly on time). Your temperature will be checked, and you will be given hand sanitizer. Make sure to wear a mask every time except for the treatment time. Distancing will be practiced physically. Unless otherwise directed, all adult patients are required to visit the dentist alone (except the exceptional cases). You will also notice the dental team in special attire (face shields, safety gowns, etc.).

After the appointment:

Even if you’ve been vaccinated, call the dental office if you start feeling ill with COVID-19 symptoms within two days of your appointment. You could have already been infected with the virus at the time of your appointment, putting anyone who came into touch with you at the time in danger of becoming ill.

Note: Regular dental appointments are an important element of maintaining your overall health. Your dental healthcare provider will ensure that everyone participating in your visit is as safe as we conduct daily tests on our team members and log results.

FAQ’s

1. How is the coronavirus spread in a dental setting?

The coronavirus spreads either via aerosol, droplet, and/or via physical contact. Dental offices due to the nature of dental treatments are much prone to aerosol, droplet production thus coronavirus spread in dental settings. However, frequent sanitization, cleaning, and sterilization reduce the count of virus spread. In the last two years, since the inception of this pandemic, dental offices, even though prone, have not contributed in the augmentation of this dreaded virus and for that we must congratulate the synchronized efforts of the regulatory bodies along with insurmountable efforts that each and every dentist had put in to keep their patients safe and healthy. It is really a proud moment to all the dentists who have kept serving and keeping those smiles sparkling.

2. How do I know if the dental office is open or not?

As recommended by Ministry of Health and Long-term Care in conjunction with the Ontario Dental Regulatory bodies: dental offices in Brampton are open during Covid-19 however, the timings for dental offices may vary. Dental care is mandated to be an essential healthcare service.
