Tongue Cleaning & Bad Breath

In order to eliminate the smell of bad breath from an individual’s mouth, it is very important to build a regular routine of cleaning the tongue. The development of bad breath starts with oral bacteria. The bacteria lives on the tongue and is usually in the back of the individual’s mouth. This is the ideal place for anaerobic bacteria to live and grow.

The reason for this is because the tongue accumulates a buildup of mucous which in turn acts as a protection barrier for the bacteria that causes odor. When cleaning our tongues, we remove the mucous as well as the bacteria.

The process involved for cleaning your tongue is fairly simple. It involves brushing or scraping the tongue, primarily the region in the back of the mouth. The purpose of tongue cleaning is to remove the white colored coating that can be found developing on the tongue. In some cases, a toothbrush might be an adequate tool for cleaning your tongue, however a tongue scraper might be most effective.
