Types of Dental Implants

A crown that is visible in the mouth and roots that are concealed or implanted in the jawbone makes up the teeth in the oral cavity. The roots support and strengthen the tooth, allowing it to fulfill a variety of activities. The tooth may be unable to function effectively for a variety of reasons, and dental health professionals may suggest dental implants to replace faulty or non-functioning teeth.

Dental implants are made up of two parts: the implant, which works as a root, and the crown, which is placed on top of it and performs the same tasks as a normal tooth. Dental implants are made of biocompatible material and are surgically implanted into the jawbone to replace a missing tooth.

Types of Dental Implants:

Different dental implant types are available in the dental market that dentists usually use. There are two types of dental implants, endo-steal and sub-periosteal. The endosteal implant is the one that is surgically fixed in the jawbone, while the sub-periosteal implant is sited in such a way that it sits on the bone but below the gingiva.

As implants are fused into the jawbone, they provide a stable and secure base for the artificial teeth to place on them. Depending on the condition of the surrounding teeth, single or multiple fixed restorations (dentures, crowns, and bridges) can be placed over the implant’s screws.

Implant Procedure:

Dental implant placement surgery is a critical procedure that demands dental specialists with advanced surgical skills and efficient surgical instruments. Following a complete dental and medical history, our Brampton Dentists will undertake complete clinical and radiographic exams. A diagnosis and treatment plan then devised.

The implant procedure can be single-staged or two-staged. At a single-step technique, the screw and abutment are placed in the same appointment, whereas in a two-step technique, the screw is first inserted in the jawbone and then left to heal for five to six months. After the screw has healed and fully integrated with the bone, an abutment and a crown are then placed on top of it subsequently. This whole surgical procedure is done either under local anesthesia or general anesthesia.
